“The King”
100% Cabernet Sauvignon
Alc. 14.2%
Color: Medium purple
This Cabernet Sauvignon offers a fruit-forward twist on a classic favorite, bursting with rich aromas of ripe blackberry, black cherry, and plum, layered with hints of vanilla and warm spice. Medium- to full-bodied, with smooth tannins and a soft, velvety finish, it trades some of the bold, earthy structure of a traditional Cabernet for a juicier, more jammy Texas expression. Dry yet lush and approachable, this red wine delivers all the richness of a Cabernet Sauvignon with a little extra fruit and Southern charm.
Bold enough for a steak, smooth enough to enjoy on its own.

Butch A.K.A. “Handsome”
Around Rio Neches Ranch, there is only one King—and he knows it. Our family cat is a 20-pound black teddy bear with a larger-than-life presence and a very well-established place at the top of the household hierarchy. Equal parts lovable, spoiled, and regal, he has spent years ruling the ranch exactly as he sees fit.
They say “Cab is King,” so there was really no question which wine would bear his name. Bold, classic, and commanding, our Cabernet Sauvignon is a fitting tribute to the four-legged gentleman who has long believed everything around here belongs to him anyway. The King celebrates a beloved member of our family and the undisputed ruler of his ranch.
(And yes, we did have a hard time picking among the 1000+ photos we have of him…)

Cabernet Sauvignon - The Superstar of Red Wines
Cabernet Sauvignon is often called the "King of Red Wines," but its royal beginnings were surprisingly humble. Originating in Bordeaux, France, Cabernet Sauvignon emerged from a chance natural crossing between two very different grape varieties: the red Cabernet Franc and the white Sauvignon Blanc. This family secret remained hidden for centuries until DNA researchers at the University of California, Davis, confirmed its parentage in 1997. From its beginnings in French vineyards, Cabernet Sauvignon went on to conquer the wine world, becoming a defining grape of prestigious regions such as Bordeaux and Napa Valley. Renowned for its bold flavors, powerful structure, and remarkable aging potential, Cabernet Sauvignon has earned its reputation as royalty in the world of red wine. But even a king can have a softer, more playful side!
While Cabernet Sauvignon is traditionally known for its bold tannins, dark fruit flavors, and structured character, the warm Texas climate can bring out an entirely different side of this noble grape. With abundant sunshine and long growing seasons, Texas-grown Cabernet Sauvignon can develop beautifully ripe, fruit-forward characteristics, often showcasing luscious notes of blackberry, black cherry, plum, and black currant. These generous fruit flavors can take on a rich, almost jammy quality, complemented by hints of vanilla, chocolate, tobacco, and warm baking spices, depending on how the wine is crafted and aged. Although Cabernet Sauvignon naturally possesses firm tannins and a full-bodied structure, warmer growing conditions can contribute to a rounder, more approachable expression with a smooth, lingering finish. The result is a wine that maintains the strength and complexity Cabernet Sauvignon is famous for while embracing the bold, sun-ripened personality of Texas. After all, even the King of Red Wines knows how to kick back and enjoy a little Texas hospitality!
